For the past 30 days, I’ve been testing the IndyCar mobile experience from Verizon Wireless, as well as the capabilities of a Spectrum™ by LG. It was quite an experience, I must admit.

First, the screen is crystal clear, and the images are very sharp. Even though it’s a small screen (compared to my TV it is anyway), it was enough to see and feel the races I watched. Sure, it drove my wife a little nuts at first because I forgot to put my headphones on, but after I put them in, I enjoyed watching the races even more. (more…)

Verizon-sponsored IndyCar drivers Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves met with an estimated 300 fans Tuesday night at our Plainfield, IN store.

The meet-and-greet was packed with families waiting in line for the 7 p.m. autograph signing and other events scheduled outside the store on a perfect summer night under the Verizon tents. All three drivers are in top positions for the Indy 500 coming up this weekend.

Team Penske will start the 96th running of the race with all three of its cars in the first two rows. Thanks to Indy bloggers Brian Groce (Naptown Buzz) and Cherie Lowe (The Queen of Free), a few lucky folks also received VIP tickets to the Verizon suite for Pole Day qualifications.

The popular Indianapolis Mini-Marathon teamed up with us to assist runners in finding their scores and times and also to get a little relief at the end of the 13.1 miles at the Verizon stage in Military Park.

The Mini sells out quickly every year, but we also offered customers a chance to win paid entries at its Nora store. The lucky winners/runners were Christina Clark, Steve Snow, Terry Fisher and John Hitchens.

This year marked a record number of participants: 31,129 finishers! That’s about 2,000 more than in 2007 and the highest in Mini-Marathon history, according to The Indianapolis Star.

The event kicks off a month of activities leading up to the Indianapolis 500 Race held over Memorial Day weekend. Verizon sponsored the Penske team’s IndyCar drivers again this year – Will Power, Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. All three drivers will appear at the Verizon Wireless Plainfield, IN store on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m.
