We announced this week that the Verizon Foundation has donated $15,000 to Rose Brooks Center in Kansas City, MO through our Healthy Relationships partnership with the agency. The partnership will provide vital teen dating violence prevention education, including bullying, cyber threats, date rape and other common teen-related violence issues to more than 1,300 at-risk students in Jackson County during the 2012-2013 school year.
In addition, the donation will afford educational services for 2,200 students through a citywide awareness campaign during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February.
Susan Miller, CEO of Rose Brooks Center, shared the following with us: “Prevention is key to making Kansas City a safer community for all families. We applaud Verizon Wireless for their broadened commitment to violence prevention and are honored to partner with them while we work to stop violence before it begins.”
In addition to this grant, Verizon Wireless supports domestic violence agencies around the country through the HopeLine® phone recycling and reuse program.
HopeLine® from Verizon recently launched a new mobile tool, the HopeLine app, to further aid in our ongoing mission to support victims of domestic violence. Through this new app, individuals suffering from domestic violence will have quick access to resources and assistance in a time of need. Users can connect directly to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) for crisis intervention, information or referrals using #HOPE.
Since 2001, HopeLine has collected more than nine million phones; awarded more than $14.2 million in cash grants for domestic violence organizations across the country; and distributed more than 123,000 HopeLine phones with the equivalent of more than 406 million minutes of wireless service for use by victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.
