Verizon to have 4G in area by end of ’13 - Columbus Telegram - Columbus, NE. (June 23, 2012)
Verizon will launch its 4G LTE network in Columbus next year.
“All areas including Columbus across the county that are 3G today will have our 4G LTE network by the end of 2013,” said Karen Smith, Verizon Wireless public relations manager.
The new network already is operational as of last fall in Lincoln and Omaha. A wide path of coverage crowds I-80 between the two cities, delivering 4G service to the towns that surround that interstate like Bellevue and Waterloo.
Smartphones Now Set Up for Wireless Emergency Alerts - Pioneer Press – Saint Paul, MN. (June 25, 2012)
For Christopher Lower of Minneapolis, severe-weather alerts via his smartphone are a matter of life or death.
Lower, who is on a waiting list for a heart transplant, keeps his current ticker going with medical equipment requiring power. He has set a weather app on his smartphone to send him a text and beep loudly when a major storm is headed his way so he can switch his life-preserving medical gear to battery power and not be affected by electrical outages.

Customers will have a single data plan for all devices up to ten cell phones and gadgets. That means unlimited voice minutes and text messages. But a monthly access charge per device. Verizon is the first carrier to have this type of plan.
