The sponsors are a Minnesota-based domestic violence agency called Cornerstone, Verizon Wireless and MTE Inc., a management and artist development agency.

What’s the best wireless carrier in the metro? Here’s data. – TwinCities.com – St. Paul, MN (May 23, 2012)

It is a question I get asked a lot: “What phone should I buy?” What people are often really asking me is, “What’s the best wireless carrier?”

I reply partly from personal experience. As an AT&T user (via my Pioneer Press-issued iPhone) I have no qualms about recommending the carrier to those mostly sticking to major metro areas. I have zero complaints about my AT&T service in the greater Twin Cities, none.

Verizon has zippier data service in the Twin Cities via its LTE network, which is smokin’ fast, but AT&T has assured me it will deploy its own LTE network here this year.

iPad 2 Review – WIBC 93.1 – Indianapolis, IN (May 21, 2012)

For the past week I have had the pleasure of testing an iPad 2.  Now, my wife has had an iPad 2 for at least 6 months; and she has allowed me to “play around” with it some.

But this one has the Verizon 4G network, versus hers being on our home WiFi alone…  You would think that she would get the better data throughput; but from appearances; the tablet was smoking fast!

Verizon Wireless is boosting its 4G LTE and 3G capacity for customers attending the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix being held at The Raceway at Belle Isle Park June 1-3.

The company has deployed a COW (Cell on Wheels) to boost capacity in the area surrounding the racetrack. A COW is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location — and works especially well in dense areas with large crowds.

Fitchburg store manager, Aaron Midthun, joined anchor Barclay Pollack to discuss three apps that would help families hitting the road for summer travel. The pair discussed Roadside America (an app that explores the oddities that dot the American landscape), TripIt (an ideal way to organize travel information like itineraries, reservations and maps into one location) and TV Food Map (an app that collects all of those crazy eateries you’ve seen on The Food and Travel Channel and plots them out on a map for intrepid – and hungry – explorers).
